How Many Questions Are on the ServSafe Test?
Question counts, time limits, and format for the ServSafe certification exam
The ServSafe Food Protection Manager exam has 90 multiple-choice questions and a 2-hour (120-minute) time limit. Of those 90 questions, only 80 are scored— the remaining 10 are pilot questions being evaluated for future exams (you won't know which are which).

What Format Are the Questions?
All ServSafe Manager questions are multiple choice with 4 answer options. Questions test your ability to apply food safety knowledge to real-world scenarios — not just memorize facts. There is no penalty for guessing, so always answer every question.
Can You Retake the Test?
Yes. If you fail, you can retake the exam. You'll need to pay the exam fee again ($36-$75). There is no mandatory waiting period, but scheduling availability may vary.
